settling in

I've been telling people back East (and myself) that my move to CA isn't necessarily forever, but certain things do seem to indicate the permanancy of my new position:

-This afternoon I moved into my new office, right across the hall from Martens. I have my own desk, chair, network hookup, and phone. Wippee! (for the past month plus I've been sharing my boss's somewhat cramped office and equipement, so I'm sure we're both going to appreciate the extra elbow room). The new office is still mostly empty, but hey, ya gotta start somewhere, right? First things to go on the walls will probably be my JD degree and license to practice from the CA Supreme Court. Not necessarily my style, but it's what every lawyer does. Anyway, here's a first look:

It looks small, but it's really not a hole in the wall. That opening to the right extends another six feet or so to two large windows. Thinking about a Nerf basketball hoop or couch in that space.

-My new business cards are ready to be picked up from Staples. I haven't seen them yet, but Martens assures me they have my name and "attorney at law" on 'em. Yeah baby.

-Finally, I've got Cali vehicle plates and drivers license. I've had both for a while now, but didn't take a pic of them until recently. I kind of like the PA drivers license better, actually, 'cause it has the names of the counties and the state logo in a mult-level irridescent watermark across the face of each license, which of course is very cool. Here's what the Cali ones look like:

To any crooks thinking about stealing my identity from this pic- Ha ha! Notice how I shrewdly covered up all the important numbers...

Yeah, they have to keep the CA licenses simple enough to be easily forged by our friends near the border. =)

Oh, and I'm fixin' to call and report a robbery. White punk male driving a silver Escort or some other similar 2-door car. License plate started with a 5. Missed the rest, but noticed the registration date: Sept. 2007. =)

Thought you'd enjoy that. Holly and I are chuckling to ourselves... he he he.

Oh, and for that empty space near the window, Addie suggests a rocking cow.

Niiice...and yeah, even though I grew up in the state, I liked my VA id better...the CA one is so cliche.

Hey, Sean,

Glad that you're liking California, but I'm not crazy about the word "permanent". =) Glad to hear you have your own office too. (sort of) Let me know how the Sequioa Mountain Rescue meeting goes.

Love you, bro.

Hey Sean,
It's so cool that you started a blog!! I think you'll enjoy it as a way of keeping up with people.
I was talking with the Howards the other day about all the stuff the old group used to do (before everyone started moving away and getting too busy). One of the girls was talking about doing something to get everyone together again. Your name came up in the conversation, and they said that if they did, you would probably be willing to come (obviously forgetting that you now lived on the other side of the states!!). Anyways, just thought I’d share that little tid-bit of info. You'll be missed at the parties here in MD (never did get to do that John Piper thing) Oh well!
So glad everything’s working out so well for you. Wish ya the best and looking forward to hearing how everything progresses. Blessing!

Hey Sean!
You are pretty sneaky by hiding the license numbers. I'm sorry this is the very first time I was on your blog..apparently these things are popular all of the sudden. I'm glad to hear things are going well out in CA..we miss you! Anyways, don't move out there permanently! Miss ya!

Wow Sean, 9 comments? When did you become so popular? :) And by the way, it works both ways, you want me to leave comments on yours, you have to leave them on mine. I know reading about the our life with 3 little kids may not be your speed, but do it for old times sake. And, by the way cool CA license, we had those once upon a time.....

Sean, we're really enjoying your blog! The more info the better and post lots of pics. And don't forget to take a picture of your new business card (better yet send us one - you never know we might need it if we're going to drive all the way out to CA =). Also congratualtions on your new office - it looks great and I think Addie's idea is awesome for the adjoining space (sure made me laugh) We also love reading the comments. Love & miss you LOADS!
