The Chute

I've been meaning to post an update including my visit to Oklahoma over Memorial Day weekend, but I still haven't put the pics on my pc yet. Soon.

In the meantime, I had an awesome run Sunday with my friend Jeff on an exciting class IV section of the Kaweah River. I actually made "Picture of the Day" on the Kaweah River dot org website http://c2.com/kaweah/picturesoftheday/pictureoftheday_6-15-08.jpg because the webmaster helped us with the shuttle and took pics as we went by his house. Thanks Bill!

This particular rapid is great- crazy fun, with pretty low risk. This is the first time I've run it without flipping.

Settin' up, and aiming for the "tongue." Last time I tried this rapid, I almost went straight into that boulder- the absolute worst line due to the pin potential.

Boom baby! Can you spot my paddle? =) My little boat doesn't have the volume to avoid getting buried.

All right, so I wasn't facing downstream the whole time, but I stayed upright =)

Jeff and I.

Sadly, it's the tail end of the season. The snow pack is almost gone and the rivers are dropping fast. This coming weekend will probably be the last for natural flows. Fortunately, there are a number of reservoirs with controlled releases so there will be more paddling opportunities through the summer. I'll just have to drive a bit farther.

Sean, what do you mean YOU made "Picture of the Day", I only see your hand and part of your paddle.
I have to say my mother's heart always beats a little faster when I get on your blog...BUT I'm trusting the Lord, who watches over you always.
AWESOME!!
(Take lots of pics over July 4th)

You do love adventure! My crazy, non-adventuresome life seems so boring when I see you speeding down the rapids! But I do enjoy watching YOUR adventure!

well Mrs. A, if we're going to compare, I'd have to say the excitement and reward of facilitating and observing God's work in the lives of your children and grandchildren is a much grander adventure. In the absence of family close by, I just try to find interesting ways of filling my weekends =)
